How to Export a YouTube Transcript as a PDF
Whether you're a student who wants to print lecture notes, a researcher who needs a citable document, or a content creator archiving video scripts, exporting a YouTube transcript as a PDF is a useful skill. Here's how to do it in under a minute.
Method 1: Use youtubetotext.io (Easiest)
- Go to youtubetotext.io and paste your YouTube URL.
- Click "Get Transcript" and wait for the transcript to appear.
- Click the "⬇ PDF" button in the results area.
- Your browser will open a print dialog. Select "Save as PDF" as the destination and click Save.
The PDF includes the video title at the top, a horizontal rule, and the full transcript text in a clean, readable format. No watermarks, no branding — just the content.
Method 2: Copy and Paste into a Word Processor
If you want more control over formatting, copy the transcript using the "📋 Copy" button, paste it into Microsoft Word, Google Docs, or LibreOffice, format it as you like, and export as PDF from the File menu.
Method 3: Use Your Browser's Print Function
After extracting the transcript on youtubetotext.io, press Ctrl+P (or Cmd+P on Mac) to open the print dialog. Select "Save as PDF" and the entire page — including the transcript — will be saved as a PDF.
Tips for Better PDF Transcripts
- Remove timestamps: If the transcript includes timestamps, you may want to remove them before saving. Use Find & Replace in your word processor to clean them up.
- Add headings: For long videos, manually adding headings at topic changes makes the PDF much easier to navigate.
- Use youtubetotext.io for structured notes: If you want a PDF that's already organised by topic with key terms and review questions, generates structured study notes that export as clean PDFs.
